Need help with the Sony HVR-HD1000U?
I have to record a conference in August. I am trying to figure out what camera to buy. I really like the Sony HVR-HD100U it looks pretty easy to run. The questions I have about it are. Can you disable the shotgun mic? Is there an audio input so that I can feed an audio signal directly from my sound board?
I will be recording directly onto a dvd, hopefully using an S-Video cable from the camera to the Pioneer DVD Recorder Model# DVR-320-S. I have never done this before so I am hoping this works. I have not purchased the camera yet. I can only spend up to $1,600. Any suggestions, answers, or input will help.
Thanks,
Jeremy
The Sony HVR-HD1000 is a shoulder mount, “prosumer” camcorder. Compare it’s lens filter diameter to the Canon HV40.
Then compare the single CMOS imaging chip size to the Canon HV40.
The HD1000 uses a 1/8″ (3.5mm) stereo audio in jack. When a mic is plugged into that, the on-board mic is automatically bypassed – “disabled” to use your word…
I don’t think the HD1000 does S-Video. But is does have a DV port – and that is a 4-pin firewire port – just like the one on the front panel of the DVR-320.
Why you would not use miniDV tape to record high quality, HDV format, 1080i video makes no sense to me… The DVR320 is only standard definition – and not only that, but the most highly compressed into DVD format VOB files that were never meant for editing.
I also do not know what board feed you are expecting to get – if it is just a person talking or a band… or whatever… I pretty much NEVER take a board feed unless I know the audio person knows what they are doing and can send me a good discrete board mix (and not a house mix).
And I don’t know what audio mixing board is being used. The decent ones use XLR connectors for what you want to do – so that means and XLR adapter like the BeachTek DXA-6 or juicedLink CX231.
Get all your gear as soon as you can so you can PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE and not get stuck once you get to the conference…
